It is grown under shelter from the sun and is characterised by its strong umami flavour.

Yame City, located in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, is
as a production area for quality gyokuro.
It has been awarded the prize of production area for 24 consecutive years.

Theanine is contained in high amounts, which has a relaxing effect.
